About the book >.>.> In 1942 Funk was still defending the need for state control of foreign exchange by saying that it would prevent uncontrollable capital flows from disturbing the planning of the economy. The Germans of course maintained price stability through price con- trols and Funk saw this as the only alternative to inflation. 116 But the control of prices was not the only way of stabilising the economy: wages had to be kept under control too. Public spending had to be controlled as did money credit and consumption. 117 Funk explained that no one need fear for the stability of the Reichsmark and he believed that economic convergence was necessary to achieve stabilisation of exchange rates.
