About the book >.>.> It is with some pleasure that I have been given the chance to say something about ‘The Sun Records of the West Country… as I have long colled Alan’s great little studio. As long as I’ve had anything to do with rock n roll on UK radio I’ve maintained the principle that whilst of course the original music of the founding pioneers has to be the bedrock in order to keep the music alive it can never just be nostalgia. There has long been a vibrant rock n roll/rockabilly scene in the UK with some really great bands and artistes but the problem was that for far too long most of them were a well-kept secret within the scene itself. What Alan has done at Western Star to totally change this has been nothing short of amazing. From the first time he sent me one of his CD’s I could hear that this was indeed something different. Not just more covers of rock n roll standards no matter how well done the label and the studio had a distinct sound of it’s own and was prepared to be adventurous and inventive. In the past 10 years the depth and breadth of the Western Star catalogue has been second to none and has certainly kept me in music for my show virtually every week. It has been a privilege to give first-time radio airplay to many of Alan’s bands and productions and I thank him for that… We all love an exclusive! But without the quality of the music and of course his production that would count for nothing. I would never air anything didn’t think was good enough….All my listeners now know my oft- epeated phrase “Alan Wilson at Western Star which surely speaks for Iself. “lus of course Alan never forgets our musical heritage and the debt we owe to the people who were there first especially the early days of itish rock n roll with obviously Joe Meek as Alan’s wonderful tribute D’s will confirm. Alongside which there is his work with the guys who were there then but still sound great today like John Leyton Mike Berry arty Wilde Vince Eoger and of course Chas Hodges.
