Treasures of Venice contains essays by several eminent scholars among them Kl?ra Garas former director of the Museum of Fine Arts Budapest who discusses the history of this collection of paintings and how it relates to the wider context of collecting Venetian art in Central Europe. Philip Sohm Pro fessor in the Department of Fine Art University of Toronto contributed an essay on the critical reception of seventeenth-century Venetian painting of which the Budapest collection contains an unusually rich selec tion. An essay by George Keyes Patrick and Aimee Butler Curator of Paintings at the Minneapolis Insti tute of Arts who also curated the exhibition deals with the impact of the Venetian school on later styles of European painting. The foreword written by Miklos M?jzer director of the Museum of Fine Arts Budapest discusses the circumstances of the museum’s founding and how it came to attain its position as one of the great museums of the world.
