About the book >.>.> Nothing of any substance has been omitted from the chosen wills and every personal name is given. Although spelling has otherwise been modernised numerous brief quot- ations are given exactly as they occur in the wills and the exact spelling is given for obsolete words and also for surnames. The will numbered 105 in this present volume is the last to be included in the booklets referred to above. Up to and including no. 105 the calendars have been prepared direct from the booklets although any errors which came to light were of course rectified. Later wills were calendared from the class transcripts which were checked against the original wills. Each of the two booklets was issued with an introduction by the late Professor Patrick McGrath and the former City Archivist Miss Mary E. Williams. The present editors are greatly indebted to their work which is largely incorporated in the introductory comments which follow although some amendment and extension has been necessary to accommodate the omis- sion of the earlier “country” wills and the inclusion of later material. We should also like to record our thanks to the various members of the Archives Class over the years whose labours provided the basis for this present volume. (LL)
