About the book >.>.> In the last fifteen years since my two volume work entitled The Welsh Cistercians appeared there has been a considerable flowering of Welsh Cistercian studies. It seemed to me that the time was ripe for a new book very much updated revised and recast. Three years ago Gracewing published in fine format my life’s work (The Cistercians in the Early Middle Ages) and so I am very pleased that Tom Longford Managing Director and Jo Ashworth Publishing Manager are ensuring the appearance of this new volume which also reflects a lifelong interest. I am especially grateful to Dr David Robinson of English Heritage for construc- tively criticising points made regarding the monastic buildings to Dr Madeline Gray for suggesting amendments to my list of the lands of Llantarnam and to Mr Julian Harrison for correcting the first proofs. Other collaborators find mention in the captions and notes. Years ago various scholars who accompanied me on field trips included Dr Cyril Hart Mr Jeremy Knight and the late Mr Richard Kay.
