About the book >.>.> But Boreman also undoubtedly fascinated the younger Billingsley with his reminiscences of life at the metropolitan Chelsea manufactory visited by the aristocracy and where ornate gilding and rich decoration were the essential requisites in attempting to vie with the sumptuousness of the contemporary S?vres productions: Boreman too certainly had a reasonable working knowledge of the making of porcelain bodies and glazes and it was the tempting possibilities of these which infected Billingsley with the seemingly fanciful ambition of himself being able at no distant date even though devoid of any financial resources and completely lacking influential friends to produce a porcelain body which would rival the translucent beauty of the famous P?te Tendre of S?vres. Zachariah Boreman willingly became the mentor and instructor of this fervent enthusiast and for some five years the two spent most of their leisure time locked in a spare room in the home of Billingsley’s parent at No. 22 Bridge Gate Derby mixing and then firing their innumerable experimental bodies in a miniature kiln erected for the purpose in the basement.
