About the book >.>.> In the early part of the summer of 1934 we visited the new river Qum-darya i. e. the lower part of the Tarim in the eastern part of Sinkiang or Eastern Turkistan. The whole archaeological collection then brought together was described and discuss- ed by me in “Archaeological Researches in Sinkiang” Stockholm 1939 (No. VII: 1 of this Series) and Miss SYLWAN contributed to that volume by furnishing the de- scriptions of the textiles. Dr. HEDIN’s discoveries were made in the delta of the Qum-darya (approx. posi- tion long. 90? 7′ lat. 40? 40′) and the objects to be considered here originate from a single grave called Grave 36 and marked 36 on the map on p. 13. My own finds were made in the western part of the Lop desert in a cemetery containing many gra- ves. It is marked Cemetery 5 on the map; in my earlier publications it has also been referred to as “?RDEK’S Necropolis”. This cemetery is situated on a small solitary hill a little to the east of a branch of the Qum-darya which bearing no name is referred to as The Small River and about 40 km to the south of the main river. Its approximate position is long. 88? 30′ and lat. 40? 20′. The distance between Grave 36 and Cemetery 5 is 130 km as the crow flies. (MP)
