It is the element of compassionate outreach that inspired me to write this book title it Zen Gifts to Christians and address it to those Christians who are temperamentally inclined toward practicing Zen to enrich their lives. In no way do I intend to supplant or criticize Christianity. St. Paul tells us that there are many gifts but only one Spirit. And all who attempt to plumb the depths of Christianity know it includes devotional prac- tices for all temperaments. We know that no one devotional practice pos- sesses the whole Christ. We are also aware that when we choose the one practice to which we are most emotionally disposed we follow it and allow all other practices to fall into its shadow. (LL)
